Thacker: Gale Wilmer

“One of the last true gentlemen” Gale passed away on February 21st, 2008 at Maple Park Lodge having just celebrated his 100th birthday one week prior. Gale Wilmer Thacker was born on February 14th, 1908 in Osceola County Michigan to the late Hattie and Ralph Thacker. He is survived by two brothers and one sister and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his longtime friend David Roubie of Ridgeway, Connie Hammond and Wayne and Faye Perkins.

For many years Gale ran Hodge Florist in Buffalo and was also involved with Hocks Flower Shop in North Tonawanda and the Flower Basket in Ridgeway. For many years he did the flowers for Point Abino Chapel. He is credited with establishing the Michigan Gladiola Society chartered on March 11, 1926. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, the Buffalo Kiwanis Club for 67 years, The Port Colborne Club and served in The Unites States Navy for four years.

In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on April 5th, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, Symphony Circle in Buffalo, New York. Luncheon to follow. Benner Funeral Services 1105 Benner Ave. Fort Erie, Ontario entrusted with arrangements
